Tuberculation is the process in which blister-like growths of minerals or corrosion deposits form on the inner walls of iron or steel pipes. It is caused by the reaction of the pipe material with water impurities, such as dissolved minerals, oxygen, or bacteria. Tuberculation can reduce the pipe’s internal diameter, restrict water flow, increase pressure loss, and contribute to water quality issues. Regular cleaning, pipe lining, or replacement with non-corrosive materials like copper or plastic can help manage tuberculation and maintain the efficiency of the plumbing system.
