Rough-in refers to the initial stage of plumbing installation, where the drain, waste, vent, and water supply lines are installed within walls, floors, or ceilings before the drywall, tile, or fixtures are added. It sets the foundation for the plumbing system, establishing the basic layout and connections needed for toilets, sinks, showers, and other fixtures. Proper rough-in requires accurate measurements, appropriate pipe sizes, and correct alignment to ensure that the system meets code requirements and functions efficiently once the fixtures are installed. Inspecting the rough-in stage is critical to avoid costly adjustments or repairs later in the construction process.
