Reamed and drifted (R & D) is a term used to describe the process of reaming and smoothing the internal surface of a pipe to remove burrs, rough edges, or obstructions that could impede flow. The drifting process involves passing a drift through the pipe to ensure it has a uniform diameter throughout. This process is common in industrial and oilfield plumbing, where smooth, unobstructed flow is critical to maintaining pressure and preventing damage to pumps and other equipment. R & D ensures the pipes are properly prepared for optimal flow and durability in high-pressure systems.
