pH, or potential hydrogen, measures the acidity or alkalinity of water on a scale from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. In plumbing, maintaining the correct pH is essential for preventing corrosion, scaling, and other issues that can affect pipes, fixtures, and water quality. A pH below 7 indicates acidic water, which can corrode metal pipes and fittings, while a pH above 7 indicates alkaline water, which can lead to scaling and mineral buildup. Regular pH testing and adjustment, through methods like chemical dosing or water softening, help ensure water quality and protect plumbing infrastructure.
