The Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) is the highest permissible concentration of a contaminant allowed in public drinking water under the Safe Drinking Water Act. MCLs are set by regulatory agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to ensure the safety and quality of drinking water. In plumbing and water treatment, monitoring and maintaining water quality to stay below the MCL for contaminants like lead, arsenic, nitrates, and other harmful substances is essential for public health. Proper filtration, disinfection, and regular water testing help maintain compliance with MCL standards.
