A grip fitting is a type of compression fitting used to connect PB (polybutylene) pipes, providing a secure and leak-proof joint. The fitting works by using a compression ring (or ferrule) and nut to grip the pipe tightly as the nut is tightened, creating a sealed connection. Grip fittings are widely used in water supply systems, as well as heating and cooling applications, due to their reliability and ease of installation. They can be used to join pipes of the same or different materials, such as copper to PB or PEX to PB. Regular inspection and maintenance of grip fittings are important to prevent leaks, especially in older polybutylene systems that may be prone to wear or degradation over time.
