Fall, also known as flow, refers to the proper slope or pitch of a pipe that ensures adequate drainage and prevents blockages. In plumbing systems, the recommended slope for horizontal drainage pipes is typically 1/4 inch per foot, allowing gravity to move wastewater efficiently toward the sewer or septic system. Achieving the correct fall is essential for maintaining proper flow rates, minimizing the risk of clogs, and preventing water from pooling in the pipe. Too steep of a slope can cause water to flow too quickly, leaving solids behind, while too shallow of a slope can lead to slow drainage and blockages. Proper fall is also important in stormwater drainage systems, roof gutters, and other gravity-fed water management systems, ensuring consistent water removal and system efficiency.
