ECO, short for Energy Cut Off, is a safety mechanism found in water heaters and other heating appliances. It is designed to automatically shut off the heating element or burner when the water temperature exceeds a predetermined safe limit, preventing overheating and potential damage to the appliance or surrounding structures. The ECO is usually integrated into the thermostat or temperature control system, acting as a secondary safety measure in addition to the primary temperature control. When the ECO is activated, it typically requires manual resetting by a technician or homeowner to restore normal operation. Regular testing and maintenance of the ECO are important to ensure that the water heater operates safely and efficiently.
