Drainage tile historically refers to clay pipe tiles installed underground to collect and redirect groundwater away from foundations, fields, or other areas prone to flooding. Modern drainage tiles are often made from perforated plastic or PVC, providing better flexibility, durability, and ease of installation. They are used in agricultural, residential, and commercial settings to manage subsurface water levels, prevent soil erosion, and reduce water buildup around foundations. Drainage tiles work by allowing water to seep into the pipe through perforations and flow to a designated outlet, such as a storm drain or dry well. Proper installation with adequate slope and backfilling ensures efficient drainage and long-term functionality.
