Dope

In plumbing, “dope” refers to a pasty lubricant, also known as pipe joint compound, used on threaded pipe joints to create a tight seal and prevent leaks. Pipe dope is applied to the male threads of a fitting before assembly, providing lubrication that makes it easier to tighten connections while filling gaps in the threads.
