Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is a thermoplastic polymer widely used in plumbing, construction, and various manufacturing industries. It is a rigid, impact-resistant plastic known for its durability, making it suitable for applications like drain, waste, and vent (DWV) pipes. ABS piping is typically black and used in both residential and commercial buildings due to its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, both hot and cold. Its resistance to impact and cracking makes it reliable for transporting wastewater, potable water, and sewage. ABS is lightweight, easy to install, and resistant to chemical corrosion, which adds to its appeal. However, it can be sensitive to UV light, so it is generally used indoors or in protected outdoor environments. In addition to plumbing, ABS is found in automotive parts, electronic housings, and toys (like LEGO bricks). It is recyclable, making it a more environmentally friendly option compared to some other plastics.
